This book presents a set of design guidelines for various problems that practical engineers face. The author, who has been involved in geotechnical and multidisciplinary civil practical works, shares his own experience as well as that of consulting and contracting authors.
There are many published books that briefly describe geotechnical structures and in particular the physical properties of soil, but most of them are basically presented to the experts or researchers. Few books were published for the practical engineers, but they just discuss a limited number of solutions for specific geotechnical works in a specific project or some projects. Generally, there are not many books for practical engineers, which combine various geotechnical works and present a set of design guidelines for various problems. As a result, the need for publishing this practical design book arose.

Hany is also Vice-President of EHE-Consulting Group in Middle East and Lecturer of Soil-Structure Interaction at El-Shorouk Academy, Egypt.
He had worked in the field of civil engineering for many years ago. He started his work in the field, during he was studying, in Bechtel Egypt Contracting & PM Company, LLC; he worked "by his hands" in culverts, small tunnels, pipe installation, earth reinforcement, soil stabilization, and small bridges. After that, he started his teaching, research, and consulting works in different professions. His specialties are concentrated on static and dynamic soil-structure interactions of buildings, roads, water structures, retaining walls, earth reinforcement, soil improvement, and bridges, as well as different disciplines of project management and contract administration. Hany is also the Managing Editor of the SSIGE/Springer journal “Innovative Infrastructure Solutions”.
