Signals and Systems Using MATLAB, Fourth Edition features a pedagogically rich and accessible approach to what can commonly be a mathematically dry subject. Historical notes and common mistakes combined with applications in controls, communications, and signal processing help students understand and appreciate the usefulness of the techniques described in the text. This new edition features more worked examples and a variety of new end-of-chapter problems, suggestions for labs, and more explanation of MATLAB code.

Dr. Aydin Akan received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1996. He was with the department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Istanbul University between 1996 and 2017. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Izmir Katip Celebi University, Izmir, Turkey. His research interests are non-stationary signal processing, time–frequency signal analysis methods and their applications to biomedical engineering and wireless communications. Dr. Akan is a senior member of the IEEE, Signal Processing Society (SPS), and Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS), and editorial board member of the Digital Signal Processing Journal.
Dr. Chaparro's research interests include statistical signal processing, time-frequency analysis, nonlinear image processing and multidimensional system theory. He is a senior Member of IEEE, Associate Editor of the Journal of the Franklin Institute, past Associate Editor of the IEEE Transaction on Signal Processing and member of the IEEE Technical Committee on Statistical Signal and Array Processing.
  • Introduces both continuous and discrete systems early and then studies each separately more in-depth
  • Contains an extensive set of worked examples and homework assignments with applications to controls, communications, and signal processing
  • Begins with a review of all the background math necessary to study the subject
  • Includes MATLAB® problems and applications in every chapter
