Consisting of 41 chapters in six sections, this book compiles the current practice-relevant knowledge on neuro-oncologic diseases, comprehensively discussing the wide spectrum of brain tumors, according to both pathology and location. It provides an overview of brain tumors, genomics and pediatric tumors, and reviews surgical adjuncts in neurosurgery, such as imaging in neuroonclogy, neuro-navigation, brain and spinal mapping, and neuro-robotics. It also includes 40 short descriptions of various microsurgical and endoscopic surgeries.

Part: I General overview.- Brain Tumors – a primer.- Pathology of Central nervous system.- Central nervous system tumors in children.- Phakomotoses.- Part II: Surgical Adjuncts.-  Imaging in Neuro-oncology.- Brain and Spinal mapping.- Image guided neuronavigation.- Robotics and Reality simulation in Neurosurgery.- Part III: Glial tumors.- Intracranial Gliomas.- Neuronal and Glioneuronal Tumors.- Intracranial Ependymomas.- Part IV: Nonglial tumors.- Intracranial Meningiomas.- Hemangioblastomas.- Embryonal tumors of the Central Nervous System.- Intracranial Germ cells Tumors.- Choroid Plexus Papillomas.- Pituitary adenomas.- Craniopharyngiomas.- Primary Central nervous system Lymphoma.- Primary Vertebral Tumors.- Spinal Metastases.- Cerebral Metastases and other Neurological manifestations of Systemic Cancers.- Skull tumors.- Part V: Tumor- like cysts.- Colloid cysts.- Archnoidal cysts.- Dysontogenetic cysts of the central nervous system.- Miscellaneous cysts.- Part VI: Tumor mimickers.- Empty sella syndrome.- Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension.- Intracranial Tumefactive demyelinating lesions.- Part VII: Regional considerations.- Orbital tumors.- Optic Pathway Gliomas.- Sellar and parasellar Tumors.- Pineal tumors.- Intraventricular tumors.- Brain stem Gliomas.- Cerebello-pontine angle tumors.- Jugular foramen lesions.- Spinal cord tumors.- Part VIII: Adjuvant therapies.- Radiotherapy for Central Nervous System Tumors.- Systemic Anti - Cancer Therapy CNS Tumors.

Dr. Thamburaj graduated in medicine from Bangalore Medical College in 1977. Following five years with Prof. B. Ramamurthi, a pioneering neurosurgeon, he worked abroad for about 10 years in Dublin and in various centers in England. During his stay in England, he received his FRCS and D.N.B in neurosurgery. He has delivered numerous guest lectures and posters presentations at national and international meetings. His teaching website ‘Neurosurgery on the Web’ is recommended by the World Federation of Neurosurgeons, the Neurological Society of India, and the Asian Australasian Society of Neurological Surgeons. He is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Neurology and Stroke. He joined Apollo hospital, Chennai as consultant in 1993 and continues to work there as well as in his parent institution, Dr. Achanta Lakshmipathi Neurosurgical Center, Chennai. He has been actively involved in postgraduate (DNB) training for the past 23 years.
