This book gathers articles presented during the first international conference on Inertial Fusion Sciences and Applications held in September 1999 at Université Bordeaux-I, France. It represents over 300 communications from scientists and engineers coming from 19 countries who met and exchanged information on the large variety of inertial fusion topics including basic sciences and technical applications. This state of the art is unique while the Laser megajoule (LMJ) in France and the National ignition facility (NIF) in the United States are under construction to achieve the goals of the inertial fusion community: Fusion ignition and high gain in the laboratory. IFSA 99 is aimed at scientists, engineers and students.
