This book is based on the proceedings of the Individuals, Populations and Patterns conference held in Norwich in September 1992 with contributions from all continents. The book has the ambitious aim of considering as much of animal ecology as possible and revealing the patterns that are inherent at both the individual and population level. Although the contents are largely based on the results of insect studies, other groups, both vertebrate and invertebrate are covered. Many of the chapters deal with pest species, but it is a tribute to the ingenuity and creativeness of ecologists that work on pest species can so often generate results applicable to ecology as a whole.
