Involving several areas of geological engineering, geotechnical engineering and tunnel engineering, this book describes the soft soil deformation characteristics and dynamic responses induced by subway vibration load. Based on field monitoring and laboratory testing data, with both comprehensive micro-and macroanalysis, the authors present dynamic characteristics and deformation settlement of saturated soft clay surrounding subway tunnels using dynamic and static methodology. Mechanism of deformation, failure in microstructure of soft clay soil, dynamic response, macro deformation and settlement are all discussed and analyzed thoroughly and systematically. Some of the research findings in this book have been widely applied by large subway companies and will have broader application prospects in future. All the above make this book a valuable reference not only for technical engineers working in subway design or construction but also for advanced graduate students. Prof. Yiqun Tang works at the Department of Geotechnical Engineering, Tongji University, Shanghai, China.
Introduction.- Field test.- Laboratory tests.- Microstructure of soil.- Theoretical analysis and numerical simulation.- Settlement predictions for soil around subway tunnels.
Prof. Tang’s research areas and teaching works are mainly concentrated in engineering geology, hydrology geology and environmental geology, etc. He has accomplished three national natural science fund projects, one 973 subproject, one subject of national technology supporting plan and a lot of national and ministerial scientific research projects. More than 100 papers are published, including 20 retrieved by SCI, around 50 by EI. He participates in the editing of 9 textbooks. In 3 of them he is the chief-editor. He got the second prize of technological progress at national and ministerial level three times; the first prize of consulting research accomplishment at ministerial level once; the third prize of outstanding achievements in Education at national and ministerial level twice and so on. He won the 2010 excellence tutoring reward of graduated student outstanding achievement (Doctoral dissertation) in Shanghai, and the 2011 nominated excellence tutoring reward of national outstanding doctoral dissertation. Additionally, he serves as a secretary in the joint research institute of urban environment and sustainable development in Education Ministry; the committee director of disciplinary in geological engineering and geological resource; director of research group of urban geological engineering and engineering environmental effect.
