Entrepreneurial ecosystems have recently received considerable attention from scholars and policymakers. This study sheds light on public accelerators as anchor tenants of entrepreneurial ecosystems and aims at investigating their roles in the early ecosystem evolution. Based on a single case study with the Santiago entrepreneurial ecosystem in Chile, this study reveals five steps in which public accelerators orchestrate resources and develops a framework of the role of public accelerators in the evolution of entrepreneurial ecosystems.

Conceptual background on entrepreneurial ecosystems and accelerators.- Acquiring resources from outside the entrepreneurial ecosystem.- Integrating and accumulating acquired resources in an accelerator.- Developing entrepreneurial ecosystem resources.- Coordinating the entrepreneurial ecosystem resource flow.- Facilitating entrepreneurial ecosystem resource recycling. 
Dr. Jan Harima is a research associate and lecturer at the Chair in Small Business & Entrepreneurship of the University of Bremen. His main research interests are entrepreneurial ecosystems, accelerators & incubators, and entrepreneurship education.
