Functional Dielectrics for Electronics: Fundamentals of Conversion Properties presents an overview of the nature of electrical polarization, dielectric nonlinearity, electrical charge transfer mechanisms, thermal properties, the nature of high permittivity, low-loss thermostability and other functional dielectrics. The book describes the intrinsic mechanisms of electrical polarization and the energy transformations in non-centrosymmetric crystals that are responsible for converting thermal, mechanical, optical and other impacts into electrical signals. In addition, the book reviews the main physical processes that provide electrical, mechanoelectrical, thermoelectrical and other conversion phenomena in polar crystals.

Detailed descriptions are given to electrical manifestations of polar-sensitivity in the crystals, the interaction of polarization with conductivity, the anomalies in thermal expansion coefficient and main peculiarities of heat transfer in polar-sensitive crystals.

1. Physical nature of crystal internal polarity 2. Manifestations of polar sensitivity in crystals 3. Thermal physics of polar crystals 4. Pyroelectricity 5. Piezoelectricity 6. High permittivity microwave dielectrics

materials scientists and engineers working in academia or in R&D in electronics
Dr Poplavko has been teaching electronic materials science topics for the past 40 years in the Ukraine, Portugal and South Korea. During his time at the National Technical University of Ukraine he has developed several courses in materials science and physics and has published more than 20 scientific books and manuals (4 books in English, 6 books in Russian, and 10 books in Ukrainian) on dielectrics, polar crystals, ferroelectrics, and many others. Dr Poplavko is also a renowned expert in the physics of ferroelectrics and dielectrics, known primarily for his efforts in discovering the research method microwave dielectric spectroscopy.
Dr Yakymenko is currently the First Vice-Rector of the National Technical University of Ukraine. In the past he has served as the Head of the Microelectronics Department and the Dean of the Faculty of Electronics. He is a senior member of the IEEE and a member of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine. His scientific activities have been devoted to electronics, information technology, and engineering education.
