Modern Manufacturing Processes for Aircraft Materials

Langue : Anglais

Coordonnateurs : Gurgen Selim, Pruncu Catalin I.

Couverture de l’ouvrage Modern Manufacturing Processes for Aircraft Materials
Modern Manufacturing Processes for Aircraft Materials presents a detailed review of advanced manufacturing processes exclusively used for aircraft materials, including metals, polymers and composites. Advanced manufacturing methods are discussed as well as recent non-conventional manufacturing methods for aircraft-specific materials. Key important processes discussed include additive manufacturing for both polymeric and metallic materials, electrical discharge machining, laser welding, electron beam welding, and micro-machining. In addition to the theoretical discussion, various examples of case studies are presented from reputable research centers, and institutes.

This will be a valuable reference resource for academic researchers, materials scientists, and industrial engineers working in manufacturing of advanced materials for the aircraft industry.
Section 1 Manufacturing of aircraft polymers and composites
1. Polymeric additive manufacturing in the aeronautical industry
2. Compression molding method for alumina-reinforced UHMWPE-based composites
3. Laser welding of polymer and fiber-reinforced composites for aircraft
4. Rapid prototyping of core materials in aircraft sandwich structures

Section 2 Manufacturing of structural light-weight alloys
5. High-speed machining of aluminum alloys for aircraft structures
6. Thermomechanical processing of Ti-alloy for high-end applications

Section 3 Manufacturing of hot-section alloys in aero-engines
7. Electrical discharge machining technologies in the aerospace industry
8. Application of micro machining and additive manufacturing processes for difficult-to-cut materials in aerospace industry—a review
9. A review of challenges and optimization processing during additive manufacturing of trademarked Ni-Cr-based alloys
10. Laser shock peening operation in aeroengine components 11. Electron beam welding applications in aeroengines
Selim Gürgen is an associate professor of the Department of Aeronautical Engineering at Eskisehir Osmangazi University, Eskisehir, Turkey. He is the director of the Eskisehir Vocational School. Before his academic life, he worked as a manufacturing engineer in a joint venture of KMWE-Dutch Aero, the Netherlands. He contributed to several industrial and research projects in collaboration with major organizations such as Turkish Aerospace Industries, Fiat Automotive Industry and Turkish Air Force. He has many publications in refereed international journals and conferences. He is ranked in the list of the world's best scientists of years 2019, 2020, 2021 and career-long category.
Catalin I. Pruncu is an associate lecturer at Brunel University London, UK, and a visiting researcher at the Politecnico di Bari, Italy. He is a former researcher fellow in the Design, Manufacturing and Engineering Management at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow UK. He has 11 years of research experience working in academia and industry. He was ranked in the top 6% of the UK - Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council College members in the UK for participating in peer review activities during the academic year (2019/20). He is a charter and member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (UK), since November 2015. He has also been involved in organizing or participating as a scientific member in various national and international conferences.
  • Provides detailed explanation of modern manufacturing processes used in the aircraft industry
  • Covers additive manufacturing both for polymeric and metallic materials, electrical discharge machining, laser welding, electron-beam welding, and micro-machining
