This book covers recent advances in all aspects of bone marrow-derived stem cells (BMSCs) for stroke treatment, while also providing comprehensive information on human clinical trials and animal models of stroke. In addition, it reviews the optimal conditions of transplantation for stroke therapy and potential mechanisms underlying transplanted cell-mediated functional recovery after stroke. As the first book to focus on BMSC therapy for stroke, it also discusses in depth the unique challenges of BMSCs-based therapy in this context.

The Preface.- Chapter 1 Ischemic stroke pathophysiology and cell therapy .- Chapter 2 Bone Marrow Stem Cells: Source, Characterization, Isolation, Culture and Identification .- Chapter 3 Mobilization and homing of bone marrow stem cells .- Chapter 4 Interaction of bone marrow stem cells with other cells .- Chapter 5 Mesenchymal stem cells for stroke therapy .- Chapter 6 Bone Marrow Hematopoietic Stem Cell Therapy in Stroke .- Chapter 7 Endothelial progenitor cells therapy in stroke .- Chapter 8 Co-transplantation strategies and combination therapies for stroke .- Chapter 9 Modification of bone marrow stem cells for homing and survival during cerebral ischemia .- Chapter 10 Clinical studies of bone marrow-derived stem cells therapy in stroke patients .- Chapter 11 Bone Marrow Stem Cell delivery methods, routes, time, efficacy and safety .- Chapter 12 Potential Mechanisms of Transplanted Cell-mediated Recovery After Stroke .- Chapter 13 Bone marrow stem cell stimulating factors and brain recovery after stroke .- Chapter 14 Imaging and tracking transplanted bone marrow stem cells after stroke.
