Following Gente: Nivel basico in its philosophy and task-based approach to teaching and learning a second language, with Gente: Nivel intermedio students learn intermediate level Spanish through interaction and collaborative work. Learners develop an ability to express themselves in real contexts and solve communicative problems.

This intermediate level program exposes readers to a rich and understandable input of authentic language, has them use the language in real-life situations, and helps them to listen, read, speak and write the language effectively.

TASK-BASED APPROACH 

• Acercamientos, a dynamic chapter opening section, presents the theme for the chapter, provides the context in which the topics will be addressed, and captures a reader’s attention. Activities in this section show authentic use of language and are geared to activate learners’ previous knowledge.
• Tarea is the central component of the chapter in which students use the contents of the chapter to carry out a collaborative task. All previous chapter sections build up material that is expected to be collaboratively used and applied by learners in a learn-by-doing approach.

 CONNECT WITH CULTURE 

• The Mesa redonda section not only provides activities for communication practice, but it also offers a unique chance to explore cultural issues.  Mesa Redonda features a collaborative project that aims at learners exploring, researching, and discussing cultural aspects anchored to the theme of the chapter.

 EXPLORE GRAMMAR

• Gramática en contexto focuses on content-based grammar instruction by presenting the target grammar structures in context. This section works on linguistic forms through highly contextualized structural activities. Although activities are planned for learners to gain appropriate and effective use of grammatical forms, there are opportunities for instructors to focus on linguistic form as well.
• Consultorio Gramatical presents and discusses both new grammar points as well as some recycled grammar from the elementary level. The grammar instruction in Gente: nivel intermedio is functional
