Nontuberculous Mycobacterial Disease, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2019 A Comprehensive Approach to Diagnosis and Management Respiratory Medicine Series

Langue : Anglais
Couverture de l’ouvrage Nontuberculous Mycobacterial Disease
This book is a comprehensive and authoritative source on nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) pathogens and diseases and their appropriate management, with a focus on lung disease. NTM diseases, especially lung diseases, are increasing in prevalence in the U.S. and internationally with concomitant growing interest in a broad section of the medical community. Often merely included in coverage of tuberculosis, many aspects of NTM organisms and diseases are actually very different than TB.  These differences are not intuitive or trivial and frequently result in suboptimal management of NTM patients.  This book addresses these gaps in the literature with chapters on microbiology, pathophysiology, epidemiology, the various diseases that can stem from NTM, and their particular management. There is also coverage on prevention and NTM as a public health problem. For pulmonologists and infectious disease physicians, this is the definitive resource on nontuberculous mycobacteria.

Introduction and Historical Perspective on NTM Disease.- The Modern Microbiology Laboratory and Its Role in NTM Disease.- Mechanisms of NTM Drug Resistance.- Pathophysiology of NTM Lung Disease.- Environmental Niches for NTM and Their Clinical Significance.- Genetic and Acquired Immune Dysfunction and NTM Disease.- United States Epidemiology of NTM Lung Disease.- Global Epidemiology of NTM Lung Disease.- Diagnosis of NTM Lung Disease.- NTM Lung Disease, General Management Principles.- Mycobacterium avium Complex Lung Disease.- Mycobacterium kansasii Lung Disease.- Other Slowly Growing Mycobacteria and Lung Disease.- Mycobacterium abscessus Subspecies Lung Disease.- Other Rapidly Growing Mycobacteria Lung Disease.- Surgical Management of NTM Infections.- Management of Lung Comorbidities in NTM Patients.- Extrapulmonary NTM Disease.

Dr. Griffith is a Professor of Medicine and Pulmonary Infectious Disease Section Chief in the Department of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center, Tyler.  Dr. Griffith is the Assistant Medical Director for the Heartland National Tuberculosis Center, funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). He is also the UT TB Program Director for the Texas Center for Infectious Disease (TCID) in San Antonio.  He has authored or coauthored more than 200 publications (original research papers, reviews, book chapters, editorials) related primarily to nontuberculous mycobacterial diseases.  He also participated in writing the 1997 American Thoracic Society (ATS) Statement on the Diagnosis and Treatment of Nontuberculous Mycobacterial Diseases and was chairman of the writing committee for the 2007 edition.

Offers a single authoritative volume on nontuberculous mycobacterial diseases Clearly distinguishes the important differences in diagnosis and management between NTM and TB Includes emerging concepts on prevention of NTM disease and its emergence as a public health problem
